Infidelity – What Drives Men To Cheat

The reasons why men cheat and why women cheat in a relationship differ from each other in many ways. A man usually has a number of reasons for cheating and these reasons include problems relating to genetics, self-esteem, being challenged or plain boredom with the present relationship. Although none of these reasons are justifiable, they are still the reasons why men are lead astray in many relationships.
Although genetics plays a big role in why men cheat in relationships, it is not a good enough excuse for any man to indulge in unfaithful activities. There is one theory that states that the testosterone levels in a man can determine his susceptibility towards infidelity. The hypothesis behind this theory is that man has the inherent notion that he needs to procreate in order to ensure that his species survives and so he is prone to cheating. Although this could be true, it is definitely not an excuse to cheat and be unfaithful especially taking into consideration how overpopulated the earth is. It is true that in the times of prehistory, men needed to expand their population in order to survive, but this is completely irrelevant today and so is not a good enough consolation for an act of unfaithfulness. In reality, any man who is in a sincere and loving relationship will control himself despite his dying urge to produce offspring. Although man may be predisposed to cheating, this argument does not hold true as man can always quell such urges.
Another cause for unfaithfulness in a relationship is if a man feels a sense of challenge in his infidelity. Getting away with a secret affair is challenge that men like to enjoy. In addition to this they enjoy the challenge behind finding a woman so that they can cheat. Conquest is the main aim of the affair. Although they will, without doubt, enjoy the physical nature of the relationship, but their main reason for cheating would be the pleasure they get from sneaking around and fooling their partners. Fooling their partner is considered a great accomplishment that they enjoy and they gain great pleasure in knowing that they have orchestrated the entire procedure of cheating without their partner getting even a hint. The thrill and fear of getting caught that sneaking around generates creates a rush of adrenaline that overshadows the affair or the current relationship. Competition also drives men to cheat. If a man’s friends are single and are indulging in many women, he might feel threatened and would want to emulate his friends. Affairs, for these men, become means of competing with other men. A sense of competition often causes men to become infidel.
Engaging in affairs is also a way of boosting the ego for men. Some men feel that finding more than one woman who is willing to engage in a relationship with him is a giant self esteem builder for him. They are so engrossed in the pride of attracting many women that they do not think of the destruction that their present relationship is facing. For such men, the chase is much more exciting than the conquest itself. Sometimes the mere knowledge that another woman finds him desirable is enough to quirk his ego. On can attribute such need for an ego boost to the lack of self-esteem on the man’s part that drives him to indulge in such activities to reiterate his desirability or attractiveness.
